As the Adolescent and Youth Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) project prepares to transition into its final phase after three years and four months of impactful implementation, the Community Health Promotion Fund (CHPF) is doubling down on sustainability.

From March 23rd to 27th, 2026, CHPF conducted a rigorous Five-Day Refresher Training at the Beaumont Hotel. The workshop was specifically designed for the 33 members of the COBEs (Community-Based Education and Service) team—the frontline champions who will carry the project’s legacy forward in Kilifi South and Chonyi Sub-Counties

Bridging Knowledge and Long-term Action

While this team was initially trained in October 2025, this refresher course was vital to update their skills and ensure they are equipped to handle evolving SRHR issues within the community. The training was facilitated by Emmanuel Mrira Koti (SCRHC – Kilifi South) and Stella Bendera (SCPHN – Kilifi South), expert MOH Trainers who guided the participants through 18 comprehensive units.

Key areas of focus included:

  • The Foundations: Understanding Human Rights, Human Sexuality, and Gender Dynamics in SRHR.
  • Clinical & Social Support: Adolescent and Youth SRHR (AYSRHR), Contraceptives, Maternal & Newborn Health, and the impact of Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
  • Programming & Advocacy: Strategic Behavior Change Communication (SBCC), SRHR-HIV/AIDS Advocacy, and Meaningful Youth Engagement.
  • Modern Challenges: Mental Health and Wellness within the context of reproductive health.

Ensuring Sustainability through Health Information Points (HIPs)

A core component of our exit strategy is the establishment of five new Adolescent and Youth Friendly Services (AYFS) Health Information Points (HIPs). These HIPs have been strategically allocated across five regions to ensure that young people continue to have access to safe, non-judgmental health information.

The COBEs team will operate directly through these HIPs, serving as the vital link between the community and formal health facilities. By empowering these local leaders, CHPF is ensuring that the reduction of teenage pregnancy and the improvement of youth health services remain a priority long after the formal project period ends.

Celebrating Professional Growth

The week concluded on a high note with a closing ceremony where all 33 participants were awarded certificates. These certificates represent more than just completed hours; they symbolize a deep-rooted commitment to the youth of Kilifi.

With refreshed knowledge and a clear roadmap for the new HIPs, the COBEs team is ready to lead the way toward a healthier, more informed future for our adolescents.

About the Project: The Adolescent and Youth SRHR Project is a 3-year, 4-month initiative by CHPF targeting 12 catchment areas in Kilifi South and Chonyi. Our goal is to sustainably reduce teenage pregnancy and improve SRH services for youth aged 10–24.
