The Community Health Promotion Fund (CHPF), through its Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) Programme, in collaboration with trainers and students from North Coast Medical Training College, recently facilitated a strategic community dialogue with local leadership within the St. Teresa’s Secondary School catchment area in Kilifi South Sub-County, Kilifi County. This engagement reflects CHPF’s ongoing commitment to safeguarding the well-being of the younger generation by strengthening community-led responses to sexual and reproductive health challenges.
The dialogue provided an inclusive platform for community leaders to openly discuss critical SRHR issues affecting adolescents and young people, identify existing service and information gaps, and collaboratively develop sustainable solutions. By fostering meaningful conversations with key stakeholders, the initiative aims to enhance awareness, strengthen protective systems, and promote informed decision-making among young people, ultimately contributing to safer and healthier communities.
A key highlight of the engagement was the active involvement of medical training college students, who participated in the dialogue as part of their practical learning experience. Their participation not only supported community outreach efforts but also provided them with valuable exposure to community health dynamics, enabling them to better understand local challenges and contribute as future health professionals and solution providers. This approach reflects CHPF’s commitment to building local capacity and nurturing a new generation of health champions equipped to address community health needs.

The SRHR Programme is designed to promote awareness, empower communities with accurate information, and create supportive environments that enable young people to make informed choices about their health and future. The programme primarily targets adolescents and youth, while also engaging parents, mentors, and community leaders who play a critical role in shaping positive attitudes and behaviors. Through education, dialogue, and community engagement, the initiative seeks to foster a culture of openness, responsibility, and mutual support around sexual and reproductive health matters.

CHPF continues to implement the SRHR Programme across Kilifi County, particularly in Kilifi South Sub-County, where it has made notable progress in expanding access to information and services. To date, the programme has successfully reached approximately 10,000 young people through training, awareness sessions, and community outreach activities. These efforts have contributed to a significant reduction in teenage pregnancies in the region, demonstrating the effectiveness of community-driven, preventive health interventions.
This initiative aligns with CHPF’s core mission of promoting equitable access to health information and services while strengthening community capacity for sustainable development. It also supports broader national and global health priorities, including the promotion of adolescent health, gender equality, and improved reproductive health outcomes.

CHPF expresses its sincere appreciation to its valued partners, community leaders, and members of the community for their openness, collaboration, and willingness to embrace positive change. The organization strongly believes in the power of collective action, community ownership, and capacity building as essential drivers of long-term impact.
As CHPF continues to expand its SRHR initiatives, it remains dedicated to working collaboratively with partners and communities to build informed, resilient, and empowered societies where young people can thrive and contribute to a healthier, more sustainable future.
