International Day Of African child celebration

On 16th June 2025 we joined the rest of the world in marking the International Day of the African Child at Kaloleni sub-county Kilifi County.

The Day of the African Child is an annual commemoration held on June 16th to honor the Soweto Uprising of 1976, where South African students protested against educational injustice and were tragically killed by police. The day serves as a reminder of the struggle for children’s rights and education in Africa, and it is celebrated to recognize the courage of the students who protested and to address the challenges faced by African children today.

This year’s theme being: “Planning and budgeting for children’s rights: progress since 2010”. The theme is aimed at assessing the level of progress achieved in mainstreaming a children’s issues in planning and budgeting by Member States of the AU and further encourage States to assess and reform their mechanisms of budgeting and planning to adopt a child rights-based approach.

As champions CHPF amongst other stakeholders we called upon the county government to invest more in children’s education and many other rights. The occasion was graced by the county director gender and social services who represented the guest of honor deputy governor Kilifi County Hon. Flora Chibule. Other vote official included the county coordinator Winnie Kambua, CSOs, security heads, human rights organizations children from all the sub-counties in Kilifi among others.
