Empowering families for better health

The Community Health Promotion Fund (CHPF), through the Mzazi na Mtoto Project funded by Mama Na Mtoto UK (Reg. 1163465), continues to champion community-centered health education as part of our ongoing commitment to achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC). Our work is grounded in the belief that empowered families create healthier communities, and that lasting health improvements begin with accessible information, strong partnerships, and inclusive support systems.

Over the years, the Mzazi na Mtoto Project has focused on strengthening maternal, newborn, and child health by addressing knowledge gaps and transforming health-seeking behaviors within households. As part of this broader mission, we are conducting a comprehensive series of Antenatal Care (ANC) trainings, designed to equip families with essential information and practical skills that span early pregnancy, childbirth, and postnatal care. Today, we proudly mark Day 2 of this important training initiative.

Promoting Inclusive Antenatal Care

One of the most transformative aspects of our ANC training is the deliberate inclusion of men as active participants in the maternal health journey. Traditionally, pregnancy and childbirth have often been viewed as the sole responsibility of women. However, research and community experience consistently show that when men are involved—emotionally, physically, and socially—health outcomes improve significantly for mothers, babies, and the family as a whole.

By bringing partners into the conversation, we aim to break down cultural barriers and encourage supportive, shared decision-making within households. Men are learning about maternal nutrition, danger signs during pregnancy, birth preparedness, respectful care, and the importance of early and consistent postnatal follow-up. This knowledge not only strengthens their role as supporters but also fosters healthier family dynamics rooted in understanding and compassion.

Strengthening Knowledge for Safer Pregnancies and Healthier Newborns

Our ANC training sessions are carefully structured to provide families with evidence-based information delivered in accessible and engaging formats. Key components of the training include:

  • Early ANC attendance and continuity of care
Participants learn the importance of early screening and routine check-ups to identify and address potential risks on time.
  • Birth preparedness and complication readiness
Families receive guidance on planning for delivery, recognizing emergency signs, and knowing when and where to seek help.
  • Nutrition and lifestyle guidance
Expectant parents explore best practices for maternal nutrition, hygiene, and supportive home environments.
  • Postnatal care and newborn health
The training highlights breastfeeding, immunization schedules, and development milestones to ensure that newborns receive a strong start in life.

Driving Sustainable Community Health Impact

By empowering families with accurate information, practical skills, and a shared sense of responsibility, the Community Health Promotion Fund is cultivating long-term behavioral change that contributes to healthier communities. The Mzazi na Mtoto Project demonstrates that when knowledge is accessible and families feel supported, the journey to safer pregnancies and healthier children becomes a collective success.

As we continue to expand our reach, we remain committed to building informed, resilient, and health-conscious communities—one family at a time.
