18/09/2025 marked a significant milestone in our continued efforts to improve Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) across Kilifi South Sub-County. We were honored to host a meaningful and impactful engagement session with our dedicated SRHR community team, comprising representatives from all twelve catchment areas in the sub-county. The meeting was held at the North Coast Medical Training College, right here at our premises — a place where health education and community empowerment intersect.
A Collective Commitment to Health
The session provided a platform for open dialogue, collaboration, and progress review. As the SRHR project continues to take root in the region, it was essential to reflect on the strides we’ve made and align on a shared vision for the future. The energy in the room was inspiring, as each representative brought forward experiences and insights from their respective areas, contributing to a deeper understanding of the community’s evolving needs.
Progress and Path Forward
One of the core objectives of the meeting was to assess the progress of the SRHR project to date. Participants shared updates on key activities implemented within their catchment areas, highlighting both successes and challenges. From increased awareness on reproductive rights to improved access to critical information, the positive impact of the project was evident. However, the discussions also emphasized the need for continued efforts in addressing gaps in service delivery, education, and youth engagement.
Looking ahead, the dialogue shifted toward the sustainability and long-term impact of the SRHR initiative. How do we ensure the gains made are not only maintained but built upon? This was a central question that guided much of the session’s discourse.
Stakeholder Engagement and Support
We were privileged to be joined by esteemed guests and key stakeholders who have been instrumental in driving the SRHR agenda forward. These included officers from the Kilifi County Ministry of Health, whose presence reaffirmed the County Government’s commitment to enhancing community health outcomes. Also in attendance was Miss Addah Alela, our Community Health Promotion Fund Programs Manager, whose leadership and vision continue to shape the direction of the SRHR project within CHPF.
Their input during the session added significant value, offering policy-level insights and reinforcing the importance of integrated health strategies. Their support underscores the collective nature of this work — a reminder that impactful health initiatives require strong partnerships between community members, health professionals, and local government.
Centering the Community
A major highlight of the session was the conversation around the community’s role in sustaining SRHR interventions. Participants discussed practical ways in which community members can be further empowered to take ownership of health programs — from forming health advocacy groups to involving youth champions in awareness campaigns.
By centering the voices and leadership of community stakeholders, we aim to create a model of health promotion that is not only effective but resilient and community-led. This grassroots approach ensures that solutions are culturally appropriate, contextually relevant, and embraced by those they are meant to serve.
Moving Forward Together
The engagement reaffirmed our shared commitment to building a healthier, more empowered Kilifi. As we continue to strengthen SRHR services and outreach, we do so with the knowledge that lasting change is only possible through collaboration, dialogue, and community ownership.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated in the session — your dedication is what makes this work impactful. Together, we will continue to champion the rights and health of our communities, one conversation, one initiative, and one step at a time.
