The Community for Health Promotion and Fund (CHPF) proudly joined the global community in commemorating the International Day of Older Persons with a vibrant and meaningful celebration held at Pale Pale, Bomani in Junju Ward. The event brought together elderly persons from across our catchment areas in a day dedicated to honoring their contributions, protecting their rights, and promoting their overall well-being.
At CHPF, we strongly believe that “Old is Gold.” Through our Health for the Aged Persons program, we are committed to ensuring that elderly members of our community live dignified lives where their health needs are met and their rights are safeguarded. We continue to advocate for inclusive, age-friendly environments that enable older persons to thrive.
This year’s theme, “Older Persons Driving Local and Global Action: Our Aspirations, Our Well-being, and Our Rights,” emphasized the vital role that older persons play in shaping both local communities and broader national and global agendas. It served as a powerful reminder that ageing is not a limitation, but rather a stage of life that can be filled with purpose, engagement, and meaningful contributions.
The event saw an impressive turnout and was filled with moments of joy, reflection, and unity. Elderly attendees participated in discussions, shared their experiences, and voiced their aspirations for improved services, recognition, and inclusion. Their energy and enthusiasm were truly inspiring.

CHPF was honored to host and collaborate with several key partners and stakeholders, including:
- National Government officers led by the Kilifi South Sub-County Officer in charge of Social Services
- The Area Assistant Chief
- County Public Health Officers from Kilifi South
- North Coast Medical Training College
The presence of these partners underscored the shared commitment to improving the quality of life for older persons across the region. Together, we emphasized the need for strong support systems, age-friendly policies, and community structures that protect and promote the dignity of older persons.
A major highlight of the event was the ongoing development of elderly support groups across our five project areas. These groups are already making a significant difference by creating a sense of community, improving access to care, and providing platforms for advocacy. Many elders took the opportunity to express heartfelt appreciation to CHPF for its continuous support, especially in areas of health, social inclusion, and community empowerment.

As an organization, CHPF remains deeply committed to promoting the rights, health, and dignity of older persons. We recognize their wisdom, value their experiences, and are determined to ensure they are included in decision-making processes that affect their lives.
Let us all continue to celebrate and support our elderly — not just on this special day, but every day — because indeed, Old is Gold.
