Breaking the Silence on Early Sexual Activity 🚫

Community Health Promotion Fund (CHPF), in collaboration with a passionate team of students from North Coast Medical Training College, held an impactful outreach activity at Mirimamine. The session was designed to engage youth aged 13–20 years in an open, honest, and informative discussion on the risks and consequences of early sexual activity.

The turnout exceeded expectations, with young people showing up in large numbers to participate. The student facilitators used creative dramatic presentations that captured the attention of the audience and provided relatable scenarios that encouraged meaningful conversations. These performances not only entertained but also created a safe space for the youth to express themselves, ask questions, and seek clarification on issues that directly affect their lives.

Throughout the session, several critical topics were explored. The discussion highlighted the dangers of early pregnancies, which can alter the course of a young person’s life by introducing responsibilities they are not prepared for. The team also spoke about the increased risk of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), which pose a significant threat to the health and wellbeing of young people. In addition, the conversation addressed the issue of school dropouts, emphasizing how early sexual activity can derail educational goals and limit future opportunities. Emotional and social consequences, such as family rejection, stigma, and loss of self-esteem, were also openly discussed, allowing the youth to understand the broader impact of early sexual involvement.

What stood out most was the enthusiastic engagement of the young participants. They asked insightful questions, shared their thoughts, and expressed gratitude for the knowledge shared. Their participation showed a deep hunger for information, guidance, and empowerment in navigating the challenges they face in today’s world.

For CHPF, this was more than just an awareness campaign—it was a transformative experience. By equipping young people with accurate information and life skills, the session helped them reflect on the importance of making informed choices that protect their health, education, and future. The activity not only broke the silence around a sensitive topic but also planted seeds of responsibility, resilience, and hope in the lives of the youth.

CHPF remains committed to creating safe spaces for dialogue, empowering communities, and supporting young people to make decisions that lead to healthier, brighter, and more fulfilling lives.
