Environmental Sanitation

The program entails carrying out baseline community Environmental assessment (CEHA).  Design information ,Education and Communication materials to address key environmental health issues within target communities and routinely conduct environment sanitation campaigns and actions (ESCA)

Aim

  1. Carry out a baseline community environment health assessment CEHA
  2. Routinely carry out health homes environment assessment HHEA
  3. Design information, education and communication IEC materials to address key environmental health issues within the health the target communities
  4. Routinely, conduct environmental sanitation campaigns and actions ESCA

CEHA

A systemic process to identify environmental health risk with the aim of creating practical action plans to address key environmental issues that affect the health of the target population.

The process is achieved through planning and carrying out situational analysis to identify needs and available resources in the target community.

HHEA.

It entails visiting homes and assess environmental health risks within

Procedures

  1. Identify homes with needs or challenges
  2. Design a tool to collect relevant data
  3. Make appointments with the owners to visit the homes
  4. Get consent to collect data and assure confidentiality
  5. Collect only relevant data

interventions

IEC

Entails use of data from situational baseline surveys (CEHA or HHEA); design health messages, targeting various segments of the community; and organizing environmental sanitation activities to reduce environmental related health hazards.

Procedures involved

  1. Analyse data from CEHA and or HHEA and isolate areas that requires behaviour change.
  2. Design IEC materials based on the KAP information of target groups
  3. Implement IEC
  4. Monitor and evaluate outcome and impact of IEC

ESCA

Entails mobilizing community members to collectively act and address some identified environmental issues impacting their health.

Procedures

  1. Passing appropriate message to mobilize the community to participate in emvironmental sanitation activities
  2. Involve members of the community in evaluating the impact of implemented actions
  3. Use evaluation outcomes to improve subsequent ESCA
